Fall Season

Wow, time sure does fly when you’re having fun, It’s been a whirlwind couple of months with A LOT of travelling!!! Kicked off with a trip to Toronto with the team for Tramp Camp, Skiing in Chile with Smith, New Zealand to train with the team, NYC for the Womens Sports Foundation annual Gala, Quick surf trip with Rory Bushfield, Holidays in Anguilla with my girls ending it all off with fitness testing with the slope and halfpipe teams in Kelowna. Fitness testing right after holidays may not have been the most strategic move but it was great to get focused with the team and set goals for the upcoming season.

It’s been a great fall season, and lucky for me I made it home just in time for opening weekend at Whistler Blackcomb!

ESPYs

This year I was nominated for an ESPY. I was up for Female Action Sport Athlete of the Year. What a huge honor! I headed down there and got to do all kinds of Rock star things. Check out an quick interview I did with Empire Gloves and a video Rory Bushfield made of our trip. I also posted couple photos from the ESPN Mag shoot I did with Marshawn Lynch and Amare Stoudemire. Fun Fun few days in LA!!

What brought you to Los Angeles for the ESPYs? Hmmm the ESPY’s! I was nominated for “best female action sports athlete” So I thought I would c’mon down for some fun!

Who was the coolest person you got to meet? Although I am a huge Canucks fan and supporter it was pretty dam cool to meet Tim Thomas. We shared a ride from the hotel to the show. Very nice guy. Rory was quite tongue tied.

Did you get a picture with Justin Bieber? No. I was about 10 feet from him in the hotel but just couldnt ask for a photo. Poor guy gets bugged about it 24hrs a day. I thought I would let him have his 5 minutes…looking back I should have just asked!

Was this your first time at the ESPYs? No I went down a few years back for the show. This was third time I was nominated. I won the first year and the second time I was in Iraq and couldnt go. It was a blast when I went the first time there was no way I was gonna miss it this year.

How many texts did you get from friends spotting you on television? Haha quite a few. Pretty funny to have them rolling in.

Here is the classic red carpet question… who were you wearing? Ha love it! I was wearing a dress by Rachel Roy and H by Heritage shoes. Amare Stoudemire is dabbling in the fashion world and is doing a collaboration with her. Although it wasnt one of his designs, he helped me out with the final choice.

CHILE!

A few months ago Roxy Chile invited me down to The Roxy Snow Jam. I had never been to Chile before so I jumped at the chance. My man Rory Bushfield and I headed down at end of July. As soon as we arrived we were taken to the hotel. I had about 20 minutes to brush my teeth and freshen up from the 18hrs of travel before jumping into interviews. I started with CNN. Check out the interview here; http://www.cnnchile.cl/deportes/2011/07/20/la-campeona-de-freestyle-sarah-burke-ya-esta-en-chile/ We then headed to the Roxy store (dropping Rory off at an artificial wave to play for a few hours) to do a few solid hours of interviews. The next morning we jumped in the car and headed to Portillos. Wow! We hit it perfect with blue skies and fresh pow. Ror had a blast lapping the five man poma, jumping off everything, and skiing some of the best untouched resort powder he’d seen. I hooked up with a photog and tried to shoot some photos. We had a good long lunch Chile style and watched a few baby foxes eat french fries themselves. Rory and I then headed out for a few more laps to shoot photos with what was left of the beautiful light. We did a little apres then headed back to Santiago for the night. The next morning we missioned up to La Parva to see what the mountain had to offer. Again we were stoked! We met up with a few Roxy riders, shot some photos and checked out the course for the Snow Jam. The fun day ended with Rory taking a long hike to a super steep chute with Juan (our photographer) and me sitting in a sweet homemade hot tub while eating mexican snacks and watching the sunset. How do you say heaven in spanish?! Saturday…the big event! What a blast. All of the girls killed it and I was so impressed! Where have these girls been? We dont have any Chilian girls at contests in NA but after this contest, I am hopefull that we will! The girls were throwing 3s, half cabs and spinning on and off the rails. At the end of the day the girls walked away with a ton of Roxy schwag and I got to present the winner of the ski jam with my signature jacket and the winner of the snowboard jam with my signature pants which was pretty cool for me. On Sunday we skied at Valle Nevado with the Roxy crew. I had no obligations so it was nice to just hit the slopes with some buddies. We cruised, watched a slope contest go off, saw my old friend Benny, and had a nice lunch while Rory enjoyed his new favorite drink, piscosour. It was sad to head back to Santiago knowing that my trip was coming to an end. We spent the night back in the city and did a little wondering around. The next day was my last interview/shoot and boy was it a big one. Hair, makeup and the whole shabang! It was for a womens mag and it was a fashion piece. I absolutely love getting to do shoots out of my ski gear. When it was done I wiped off all the makeup that was layered on and we headed to the airport. On the way home we stopped in Toronto (my homeland) and my Dad drove 1.5hrs to visit Rory and I at 5:30am during our layover. What a guy! We then got upgarded to first class for our last leg which was an excellent way to end an excellent trip! Before we knew it we were home and missing Chile. All in all we loved our whole visit to Chile and we are already planning our return!
